The Summer Affirmative Action Internship Program (SAAIP) is one of many intership programs offered by the State of Wisconsin. The Office of State Employment Relations (OSER), Division of Affirmative Action (DAA) administers the SAAIP and provides racial/ethnic minorities, female students, and students with disabilities an opportunity to work in a professional work environment within Wisconsin state government. The SAAIP provides students with valuable work experience and training in various branches of state government. SAAIP is a paid internship. Many of the interns have succeeded in obtaining employment in state government as limited term or permanent state employees. To participate in the 2013 SAAIP, students, at the beginning of the next school year, must be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students at an accredited four-year college or university, or enrolled in the second year of a two year or better technical or vocational school program. Since the inception of the program in 1974, SAAIP has placed over 3,100 student in internship positions in more than 30 state agencies and university campuses.
